My name is lily simon

and I've been a writer and storyteller since before I can remember.

Up until now,

my passions and thoughts have been tucked away in personal journals and diaries. As I've refined my interests and built my network, I've realized it's time to go public.

From my time studying environmental policy and economics, working a few aesthetic-based jobs, and experiencing personal health issues, I always return to the common denominator: my passion for living a life of beauty and authenticity. I'm happiest when I'm confident, and I'm confident when I'm happy. Thus far, I've found that I derive meaning in my life from my ability and privilege to express myself, as well as from educating and empowering others to do the same.

How could someone encourage an authentic lifestyle while promoting societal ideals related to image? It all comes down to the intention and awareness behind your daily choices which we, as consumers of products for our faces and our bodies, can't ignore. I think a lot about the history of aesthetics and the innate human gravitation towards things and other people that promote health, wellness and joy. As one of my friends put it, your skin is your largest organ, but your complexion is who you are. With this exploration into what drives humans towards beauty (however beauty is defined) comes the polychotomy between how all genders have historically been represented and marketed to in the world of skincare, beauty and self-care. I’m looking to change how all genders interact within the beauty and health industry in an attempt to provide more access to personal care knowledge.

For the past few years, I've read my holy grail beauty and skincare blogs as much as I keep up with the world through the New York Times. I work to recycle or pass along beauty products instead of leaving them in my cabinets for years on end. My goal is to one day work for (and own) a beauty brand, based in conscious consumerism, that allows individuals to express themselves in a way that supports healthy bodies, communities and a healthy world for all genders. Alongside my interest in cosmetics and beauty comes my various experiences with other aspects of daily life, more specified in women’s and mental health.

This is a portfolio of my own interests displayed through written word and photo. All thoughts are my own, all musings are based on my personal experience, the experience of guest contributors, and independent research.
