Why does the EU ban 1,400 chemicals in their cosmetics and the US bans 11? Where is my beacon of light to guide me through determining what is toxic for my body? It’s me! Just kidding, it’s probably brands like Beautycounter*.
This week, we’ll go on a little guilt trip about how grossly seldom you wash your brushes and how you’re too lazy to wash your hair (but, same) and then how to touch up all your worries with makeup.
You can’t have the beauty industry without buzzwords, trending ingredients, and everyone telling you what you “shouldn’t do” for your skin. It can be hard to figure out which ones to focus on and which ones are more of a fad.
I believe that Herbivore is not a gimmick. Their products have been very carefully crafted with high quality ingredients. The packaging and branding don’t feel clinical and make the products fun to use— with a cost.

Glossier Play, the brand’s “playful” component to their typical minimalist beauty actually describes the brand better than their motto of “skin first, makeup second.” To me, Glossier has always been about ordering and using the products as a fun little experiment instead of a real staple in my beauty routine.
To live in the south means scorching summers and lots of sweat. The easiest solution to maintaining a fresh face for the day would be to forego makeup completely, but that’s not the world we/I live in.
I feel beautiful with my body hair and it doesn’t interfere with my ability and desire to still be feminine. I view body hair as a more carefree lifestyle, meaning free of cares related to how I should be upholding an image of my self identified gender.
Remember: the best, least wasteful, most conscious gift is one that you’ll use and enjoy. A lot of the options below account for the risk that a product won’t work for you, or you won’t like it, before major $$ is spent and products are wasted.
