Welcome to Lily / Simon
…I think a lot about the history of aesthetics and the innate human gravitation towards things and other people that promote health, wellness and joy.
With this exploration into what drives humans towards beauty—however beauty is defined—comes the polychotomy between how all genders have historically been represented and marketed to in the world of skincare, beauty and self-care. I’m looking to change how all genders interact within the beauty and health industry in an attempt to provide more access to personal care knowledge.
From About Me
I wouldn’t rely on a mask to actually help my skin issues, but I enjoy (sometimes) the practice of applying a treatment.
Why does the EU ban 1,400 chemicals in their cosmetics and the US bans 11? Where is my beacon of light to guide me through determining what is toxic for my body? It’s me! Just kidding, it’s probably brands like Beautycounter*.
This week, we’ll go on a little guilt trip about how grossly seldom you wash your brushes and how you’re too lazy to wash your hair (but, same) and then how to touch up all your worries with makeup.
You can’t have the beauty industry without buzzwords, trending ingredients, and everyone telling you what you “shouldn’t do” for your skin. It can be hard to figure out which ones to focus on and which ones are more of a fad.
This portfolio is a platform for me to write freely about my experiences, opinions and purpose in allowing for accessible self care and unisex beauty. Living honestly and boldly has grown increasingly important as I navigate my professional and personal lives. I’d like to create a community where we can collaborate.
Sustainability and preservation surpass the environment alone; living sustainably encompasses broader respect for others, resilience in various situations, and mindfulness to ensure our greatest resources are around for those after us. I love diving into how these actions can be incorporated into daily choices.
Transparency paired with sustainability yields an authentic life with mindful intentions. I choose to write about the accessibility to beauty, self care, and environmental awareness as my main life passion.
Remember: the best, least wasteful, most conscious gift is one that you’ll use and enjoy. A lot of the options below account for the risk that a product won’t work for you, or you won’t like it, before major $$ is spent and products are wasted.
